The Open College Network West Midlands Level 3 Certificate in Dog Grooming course is suitable for those who would like to learn to be a dog groomer on a professional basis. You may be a beginner, new to the industry, or have little experience of dog grooming. This accredited course is ideal for those looking to gain an OFQUAL recognised Level 3 qualification.

No previous qualifications or experience are necessary to complete this course. Therefore you do not need to hold a Level 2 qualification to undertake it. 

This course is targeted at those who are keen to learn more about grooming a large variety of breeds and coat types, with the goal of either opening your own business or securing a groomer position in an established salon. 

What does the Level 3 Certificate in dog grooming cover?

The first day will start with a health and safety induction, along with a tour of our facilities. During each day of the course you will have the opportunity to groom various breeds of dog working your way from prepping and health checking, to fully styling as you progress. 

The course runs for 25 days in total. This includes 21 practical days, 2 theory days, 1 pet first aid day and 1 assessment day.

The course consists of both practical and theory training elements and covers the following :-

– Promoting and maintaining the health and wellbeing of       animals

– Health checking a dog and learning its anatomy

– Correct handling and restraint

– Dog groups and coat types

– Bathing and drying of dogs

– Preparing a dog for grooming

– Styling of a wide variety of breeds

– Assess, plan and record grooming work 

There is a ‘Pet First Aid‘ course included in this qualification. This is a lifelong certificate

There is a practical assessment at the end of this course but no theory exam.
